GBG greenID Mortality Checks & Death Certificate Verification
What are these services?
Mortality Check
A real-time verification of an individual’s name and date of birth against the Australian national register of deaths (over 3 million records, updated daily).
Death Certificate Verification
A real-time check of a death certificate’s details—including name, date of birth, and certificate number—against official registry data.
Why are these services important?
Sensitive handling of deceased customer records
Compliance with industry regulations (e.g., Telco TCP Code, ASIC expectations for super funds)
Fraud prevention by identifying misuse of deceased identities
Operational efficiency in managing records and benefit claims
How does it work?
Supplied details are checked against the registry of Australian Deaths.
| Inputs | Outputs |
|---|---|---|
Mortality Check | Given names, surname, date of birth | Match confirmation*, date of death, state, ACR number |
Death Certificate Verification | Given names, surname, date of birth, registration number | Match confirmation, date of death, registration state/year |
*For Mortality Check, where more than one individual with the exact same name and date of birth is present on the registry, all matching individuals will be returned. In this case we recommend performing a Death Certificate Verification or reverting to manual methods to validate the correct individual.
