Victoria driver licence card number - update
In response to the data breaches in 2022, in consultation with state transport authorities made driver licence card number mandatory to protect impacted consumers.
Victoria was the last state to go live with this mandatory change. The first phase of their rollout was focused on protecting the 942,000 Optus impacted customers. In December 2022, VicRoads went live with a limited volume of drivers licenses uploaded into NEVDIS.
From Thursday 23 May 2024, VicRoads will upload the remaining driver licence card numbers into NEVDIS. From this date the unique card number linked to each Victorian driver licence must be submitted with a verification request.
Since the driver licence card number is already a mandatory field for all jurisdictions, there are no changes required by customers.
All card numbers will now be checked and the previous expanded response ‘Y – card number not checked’ will no longer be provided.
